ABOUT THE ASSOCIATION

A Dedicated Voice for Federal Physicians

Since 1979, the Federal Physicians Association has represented the professional interests and concerns of federal civil service physicians across the United States.

Representing Federal Civil Service Physicians

The Federal Physicians Association is a nonprofit professional association dedicated exclusively to federal civil service physicians. Our organization works tirelessly to:

  • Improve the health of people served by federal civil service physicians
  • Improve the practice of medicine within the federal government
  • Advocate for equitable compensation and benefits
  • Keep federal physicians informed about relevant pay policies, regulations and legislative developments

Our History

1976

The founding members of the Federal Physicians Association alerted Congress that physicians serving in the commissioned corps and Veterans Administration received recruitment and retention bonuses while many other federal physicians did not.

1978

Congress passed Physicians Comparability Allowance legislation to help address inequities in the compensation of federal physicians.

1979

The Federal Physicians Association was formally established as a nonprofit professional association.

1987

FPA advised Congress that the maximum Physicians Comparability Allowance remained significantly below other federal physician special-pay programs and did not adequately close the compensation gap.
